General FAQ
• What is a Sealed HEPA Filtration System?
Sealed HEPA Filtration is a totally sealed vacuum filtration system. A Sealed HEPA Filtration System filters everything, including the motor exhaust, so only clean air comes out of your vacuum. Every vacuum with this feature is individually sealed for Sealed HEPA performance and filters household dust, pollen, bacteria and other allergens as small as 0.3 microns (a human hair is 50-70 microns thick).
• Do you have goals to reduce waste and water usage within your production facilities in North America?
We have set targets for waste reduction and water use reduction. The total amount of waste measured from January through July 2009 and projected for the full year is 550 tons of solid materials that will be recycled and 3,632 pounds of material that will not be recycled. Our goal is to reduce this by 2% every year. The amount of water used in 2008 at our North American production facility was 0.508 cubic feet per vacuum produced. Our goal is to reduce this by 8% per year through 2012. For more information on our environmental commitment, please click here.

Maintenance Tips
• Why do I need to change the belts on my vacuum?
Belts are made of rubber and will stretch and wear out. The belt runs the brush roll thousands of revolutions per minute, so the tighter or newer the belt, the better the vacuum performs. You’ll need your model number to order the right belt. Click here for more information on finding your vacuum’s model number.
• How often should I change by vacuum’s bag or empty my dust cup?
Generally, you should change your vacuum bag once a month and empty your dust cup when it is two-thirds full. We recommend more frequent bag changes if your home is large, if you have children and/or pets or if there is heavy foot traffic in your home. You should also change the bag more than once a month if you're cleaning fine dust and debris, since both reduce the filtration through the bag. Change the bag immediately if the dirt is above the line printed on the bag. A bag change indicator is activated on some Eureka models when the bag is full.
• When should I replace the belt?
Check the agitator belt periodically for signs of wear. Typically, it should be replaced every six months. Refer to your Owner’s Guide for detailed replacement instructions.
• When does the filter need to be replaced?
It varies, depending on your model's filtration type. Micron Filtration is not a separate filter, but is part of the bag itself. So, if you change bags monthly and use the Eureka genuine bags, your filtration should remain powerful. True HEPA filters should be replaced every six months to maintain peak filtration. The small fabric filters that cover the back of the bagless cassette and the entrance into the casing beneath the cassette can be rinsed out, dried thoroughly and put back into place. They should be replaced after a year. Washable HEPA filters should be cleaned out approximately every eight weeks. Always make sure that washable filters are completely dry before you put them back in the vacuum.

• The dirt is not going into the bag or dust cup. How do I fix this?
If your vacuum has a detachable hose, make sure it’s firmly connected. Make sure the hose is emptying the dirt into the bag or the dust cup. On bagged models, the hose needs to protrude into the bag. If these connections look right, then check the hose for a clog or obstruction. If this does not solve the concern, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-282-2886 so that we can help you diagnose your vacuum.
• Why is there a burning smell?
Check to see if the belt is broken, or if the cord or something else is caught under the vacuum. If this does not solve the concern, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-282-2886 so that we can help you diagnose your vacuum.
